Re: Switchboard
Can you explain a little more fully.
Re: Switchboard
In access there is a switchboard form that can be setup to start on opening. From this switchboard there are options that can be selected. I was thinking that I could setup a switchboard for my excel file that would direct users to different sheets depending on what they need to do. Therefore it would not be necessary to have a bunch of sheet tabs at the bottom of the file that would possibly complicate the user. Im just trying to make it more user friendly. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Switchboard
Hi Chris
I have a sheet navigator form somewhere, but there are lots of options - use the search engine. Just leaving work now, so I will check back later
Re: Switchboard
Or you could create a userform that loads on Workbook Open.
Re: Switchboard
Well the sheet navigator i could find costs $30 and its not that vital of an issue. Second, I tried using the userforms - which is basically what I want, but was having a hell of a time figuring it out. The index works, but trying to figure out how to have only certain sheets appear on the index, because some of the sheets I never want to be opened by the user. Just kinda throwing some ideas out there, none of this is imperative, just user-friendly - thanks

Re: Switchboard
Well, if it's a limited number of sheets that won't change, you could try the .AddItem method to add the various sheetnames to a listbox in your userform. Or even a static array of sheetnames.
Let me know if you want me to come up with a simple example.
Re: Switchboard
Hi,
The switchboard concept is exactly the same as a userform which appears when you open a workbook. What you need to do is think of this in a way you understand (i.e. a switchboard) and work out exactly what that switchboard does.
Usually, a switchboard provides a limited number of options for a user such as input new data, read data, print data. Each of these options is controlled by a seperate sheet or page asking for the info needed to complete the task.
Userforms work the same way. The initial form would contain buttons next to each option. These buttons launch further userforms each dedicated to the chosen task in hand.
Work out exactly what you want the switchboard to do and then take it one userform at a time.

Re: Switchboard
I have gotten some things going with a Userform, but now the next step I am having trouble with is how to set it up so that it is associated with the workbook open module, i really have little experience with this so I am pretty much lost. Also, is there a way that you can format the userform so that the text is different sizes and fonts to make it look a little less boring??? THANKS.

You can also do it with a worksheet instead of a user form if you want. See the sample that I attached.
There is a main sheet that has a selection list, the user selects a sheet and then clicks the go button. It opens the selected sheet and hides the main menu sheet. To return, just click the main menu button.
Re: Switchboard
To access the Workbook code modules, Open the VB Editor & select workbook in the left hand drop down. Then scroll through the right hand drop down to find Open
Re: Switchboard
Hi Cabbage,
Try taking the attached apart. Note code is in the module but also attached to the workbook object and the userform objects.
