  • Restore cell format to default

    Hi,

I have an annoying problem with an excel workbook which I cannot find the solution to online.

When I add a new sheet all the cells in the sheet are formatted to Date by default.

How can I change this back to General?

The workbook has too much data to rebuild in a new workbook

    You don't mention a version...

2007: Select the range to clear and use the Eraser Dropdown in the Editing Group of the Home tab - you'll find an option to Clear Formats.
<2007: Select the range and use Edit, Clear, Formats (From memory - and that's getting unreliable!)

Change the Normal style of the workbook so that it uses General as the number format.

If your Normal style is missing, open another workbook that is OK, navigate back to the original, and Merge Styles/From and select the other workbook.
