  • Creating Work Rota

I am a novice Excel user so please bear with me.

Can anyone help me with my work rota.

What i would like to do is, create a random weekly work rota, so I just have to go in every week and let excel randomly but fairly creat a rota the employees so that they don't argue about whose doing what and just get on with the work. : D

Please see the attachment to see what i mean.

Really? The employees think complete random chance is better than schedules that rotate?

Random means that Name1 could end up being the cashier four times in a week. Is that what you mean?

Yes they will be happier if they are not working with each other all the time as i have problems with NAME1 wants to be with NAME2, and complaints about favouritism etc.., so i can solve that problem with this random rotation so that they can't argue.

No i don't mean that, can I not do it so that the percentages are the same, is that possible?

          Thanks Man

Is there any way to get everyone doing tasks equally?

Why not use a fixed rotating schedule?

This is not an easy type task and you MAY prefer an off-the-shelf solution.

                beater,

Dave is right. At first you said you wanted a random schedule. Now you say not completely random - you want all names to get the same number of shifts at each position? It's becoming a policy question more than an Excel question (no offense). And your solution needs to include the people element not just some Excel code. Not to worry though. I've got plenty of opinions too.

Opinion 1 - Pick the first name at random. Let them draw names from a hat or something so they can see it is random. The first name picked gets to choose from a set of fixed schedules. Pick the second name and let them pick a schedule, etc.

Opinion 2 - Pick the first name at random. Let the first name picked pick a day of the week at random. The first person gets to pick what position to work on that day of the week. Pick the second name and let them fill in what position they want to work on the same day as the first person picked. Continue until the first day is completely scheduled. Repeat for the second day, etc.

Opinion 3 - Fire the next person to walk into your office. Continue until they are afraid to talk to you so you don't have any more complainers. LOL. Just kidding.

Well, this doesn't have much to do with Excel so, if Dave doesn't delete this and ban me, post back and let us know how it goes.

                Jim

Doesn't make sense sorry I meant it's my fault for not explaining clearly what exactly i wanted and no offence taken.
