Hi al
Please see attached file. A colleague is downloading rows of data from a website which contains a number field Excel is currently treating as Text after being pasted in.
My spreadsheet includes just a sample of the many rows of data however as you can see the VALUE function refuses to convert these text values to numbers.
Can anyone offer any advice on how these might be converted and why the VALUE function refuses to work in this case?
TIA,
Steve Stewart

Hi Kris
Thanks for the swift response and perhaps I'm being a bit dim but selecing my range of values to convert followed by your suggestion of what to replace returns an error stating Excel 'couldn't find any data to relpace'.
Could you please elaborate?
Thanks again,
Steve
Sorry for my bad English.
Hold down Alt key while pressing 160.
Does it make sense?
Hi Kris
Absolutely no need to apologise for your English and thanks again for responding.
Holding down Alt while pressing 160 enters the ' á ' symbol into 'Find what' however 'Replace All' still confirms that this data cannot be found.
Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks,
Steve
Select the cell and select the unseen character ONLY between ' and the 1st number, copoy with Ctrl+C. Edit>Replace Ctrl+V in the Replace what box, leave the Replace with empty and click Replace All.
BTW, your calculations are in manual, not good!
