Changing positive numbers to negative numbers

I am working with an automatic download. Some of the numbers should come across as negative but they are not. I can tell by a code in another column which should be negative. I can sort this column and see which should be negative. Is there an easy way to make these negative, besides going in to each cell and adding a - sign? There are thousands of numbers!

Hi Tiffany,

Use a single helper cell, in that put -1. Copy the cell and then select all the cells that require negating.
Use paste special - Multiply
