Dragging Formula Down Doesn't Change Result

    Hi All,

New to the forum, and although I'm 100% possitive this is a majorly basic question, I cant seem to find any others asking it?

all my excel workbooks seem to have some kind of formula lock on them? Simply needing to subtract column B from Colum A, so enter in my formula in row 1 and drag down to end of the file and I get the same figure displayed all the way down the column. If I then select one of the cells which should show the B minus A answer is reads correct, i.e B3-A3 however the displayed 'answer' is from B1-A1 all the way down?

Hope this makes sense and any advice would be warmly received? - I'm running 2007?

    Your most gratefully,

    Oswald!

    Re: Dragging Formula?

What formula are you entering in C2? Should be; =B2-A2 and this is a relative reference formula. Ensure you don't have: =B$2-A$2 where the row number is absolute.

Re: Dragging Formula Dowb Doesn't Change Row Numbers

    Hi,

Simply got B2-A2 in cell C2. This works fine, but when I drag down fromt eh bottom right hand corner of the cell all the way down to C121 I get the same result - Even though the formula reads B121-A121 for example?

Re: Dragging Formula Down Doesn't Change Row Numbers

Click on the Formula's tab, and look the right hand side for the "Calulcation" ribbon and click on "Calculation Options".

It should be set to automatic.

    Ger

PS, or alternatively, just press F9 to update your sheet, but you really should have it on "Automatic" anyway...

"do you knwo how to select this as standard"
I think if you click on the office button in the top left hand side of Excel, then click on the "Excel Options" button on the bottom of the window that pops up, then click on "Formulas" and then click on "Automatic" under Calculation Options/Workbook Calculation

    Regards,
    Ger
